It seems that when it comes to Nintendo, every time they do something awesome they have to do something almost or equally as stupid. Well, it seems with the Nintendo Switch online functionality, they're pulling a stupid. See, recently Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, confirmed that all voice chat, online lobbies and online match making for games on Nintendo Switch would be handled exclusively through a smart device app.
Now, it would appear, if you don't own such a device you're basically fucked. And since Nintendo will be charging for their online service later this year, not only will you need to use this app but you'll be paying for the privilege. As someone who doesn't own a smart phone and doesn't even WANT to use a smart device to access basic online gaming functions that other consoles have had built in for years, I'm very annoyed by this.
I've decided to create a petition on change.org asking Nintendo to reconsider making these online features exclusive to a smart device app. You can find it right here. And before you tell me that online petitions don't work, let me remind you that an online petition was the sole reason we got English versions of Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story for Wii.
Please sign the petition and share it with as many people as possible. Let Nintendo know that we aren't happy about their decision.
