Religion = trolled schizophrenics?

Schizophrenia may have a variety of symptoms. Usually the illness develops slowly over months or even years.

# False beliefs or thoughts that have nothing to do with reality (delusions)
# Hearing, seeing, or feeling things that are not there (hallucinations)

I don't know if that reminds you of anything, but it reminds me of religion. I was thinking about that earlier... what if religious people are simply schizophrenics that society is just fucking with?

Some guy starts hearing voices and tells someone. Someone else puts on some robes, a pointy hat and goes "That's the voice of GOD! He created EVERYTHING! It's all in this book! He's talking to you! Vote this way, hate these people and uh... he told me he wants you to give me some money."

Does that seem a little cruel to anyone else? Or incredibly funny? Or both?

  1. Organized religion is like a contagious disease that others proselytize(i.e. shove down your throat)in order to infect you with their beliefs and ideas however wrong or incorrect they are. People are too weak-minded and subservient to question anything presented to them. Holy hypocrites preach that you MUST join them or something horrible will happen to you after you die [and] then in the same sentence tell you god(sic) loves you and cares for you, that god(sic) is perfect but demands you worship him because he created you and if you don't worship him you will burn. Well...I'd say that is one f**ked-up parent! Prove that god exists? They'll say "the bible" yet the bible contains thousands of mistakes and contradictions which are convently ignored or excused away by them. Question a righteous person long enough and they will shout "WHO ARE WE TO QUESTION GOD?" AH HA...then tell me who gave us the ability to question things we don't understand? But hey, keep giving your trillions of dollars to religious organizations, after all, you are BUYING your way into heaven, aren't you?

  2. About a year and a half ago I over worked myself into a nervous breakdown and I ended up spending a couple of weeks in Hospital with a variety of Psychiatric patients. It was and still is kind of shocking how the behavior of those patients with Schizophrenia paralleled very closely with 'sane' people of a religious inclination.

  3. Its getting better, the people we call today mentally ill could have lead the witch hunt 400 years ago. Or be themselves killed in name of god.
    Makes you wonder if a thousand years ago a mentally ill person could even start a religion of himself!
